Sarah Carmichael Parson - KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Sarah is originally from Canada and came to Utah in 2004 to complete a Master’s degree in Comparative and International Development of Education at BYU. She met her husband, got married and has been in Utah ever since. She has five children, the youngest being 5 year old twin girls.

She has always had a heart to serve others and has found various ways to serve those in need throughout her life, from family and friends to those around the world.

While completing her master’s degree she had the opportunity to help run a relief effort in Thailand after the December 2004 South East Asian Tsunami and then helped form a non profit organization that sent college aged volunteers to developing countries to do humanitarian work.

Her service has continued and over the last 3 1/2 years her humanitarian efforts have focused primarily on working with refugees, locally and abroad, and working to fight against human trafficking.

Believing that every child deserves to have a toy to play with and bring them comfort Sarah founded Dolls of Hope 3 1/2 years ago. As of the middle of 2019, Dolls of Hope has sent over 25,000 handmade dolls and bears to children living in crisis in 36 countries around the world.

As the granddaughter of a Holocaust survivor, she feels it is her duty and life's mission to help alleviate suffering and help innocent victims of war, slavery, abuse, etc. as well as raise awareness about the harmful effects of hate, intolerance and racism.

Hillary Miller Newton - "How vast is our purpose"

Objective: Discussion on serving and ministering on the Macro and Micro level and learning to distinguish when to do what through personal revelation.

Hillary Miller Newton grew up in the Arcadia ward, her parents are Mike and Shauna Miller. In high school she vividly remembers her college advisor warning her that she shouldn’t have too many interests, because it will be harder to pick a major and career! She kindly disregarded that advice and knew she would find a career that would cater to her multifaceted love for creativity.

She studied film at BYU with an emphasis in editing, after which she served a mission in Rosario, Argentina from 2011-2013. When she returned, she attended the singles ward in Glendale where she met her husband Tim. They hardly had a “dinner and a movie” type of date, and instead went hiking, visited museums, and discovered the hidden “gems” of Los Angeles. They were married in the Newport Beach Temple in November 2014.

They love to travel, dance, and create together. They hope to have a family of their own one day and are praying for the best way to go about that, after having two miscarriages in 2017. She finds peace in knowing Heavenly Father has a plan for them and will definitely be a mother somehow one day! They both are enjoying serving with the youth in the ward.

Hillary pursued event production after her mission, setting up and designing nighttime 5K runs, and then as an assistant producer for Oscar, Emmy, and SAG award parties. As grateful as she is for her experience there, the environment was not always fulfilling. She became drawn toward the nonprofit world, and has had the privilege of working for Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.), an organization that saves children from sex trafficking, for three years as their Content Manager. She oversees the social media and video production, and is part of the creative process for their marketing campaigns.

Shauna Reed Miller grew up in East Pasadena with her parents Ernie and Renée Reed and her two older siblings. She is grateful to have come from such a loving family that were great examples of service. One of her favorite childhood memories is spending time at the beach with her family. She learned to sail at just six years old by her father in the Balboa Harbor on a small sailboat called a sabbot.

She attended Arcadia High School and studied fashion merchandising at BYU and Utah Valley Tech (now known as Utah Valley University). She met her husband Michael through a mutual friend when his family moved to Monrovia after his mission. While she was at BYU he tried pursuing her, and she wasn’t interested at first! Then he won her heart when they danced together at the YSA Dance Festival at the Rose Bowl in 1980. They were married in The Los Angeles Temple in March 1983.

Shauna has two daughters, Hillary and Emily, who are 4 and ½ years apart, and are always up for a spontaneous dance party with her. She has enjoyed serving the youth on both stake and ward levels, as well as in her ward Primary and Relief Society presidencies. She has looked forward to helping her husband with the stake youth Bell Choir every Christmas for the last 25 years. Shauna stays busy managing the rental properties that she and her husband own, and occasionally helps with the wardrobe on his commercial shoots. She loves dogs and misses having one, enjoys going to concerts, trying new recipes, playing music loud in the house and dancing, spending time at the beach, reading, and spoiling her great nieces and nephews.

Ellen grew up in the Monrovia area and one hundred percent considers herself to be a California girl. However after being curious about the snow, she attended Brigham Young University where she studied Art Education & International Cinema. After ultimately deciding the snow wasn’t for her she moved back to California, where she is currently working as a Nanny.

Ellen also loves traveling & will take every opportunity she has to visit somewhere she’s never been. Nothing makes her happier than a good film paired with a good meal and one day she hopes to visit every Art museum in LA.

Nací y crecí en un Pueblo muy pequeño llamado Nealtican , en el estado de Puebla Mexico soy la menor de 6 hijos, tengo 1 hermana y 4 hermanos 1 hermano murió hace 5 años. Estudie hasta el grado 10, pero ahí decidí estudiar Cosmetologia por 3 años en la ciudad de Puebla, para trabajar en mi propio negocio en un salón de belleza por 10 años. Soy la 4 Generación en mi familia miembro de la iglesia y esto Gracias a la Revolución Mexicana de 1910 donde mi bisabuelo Francisco Santamaría abuelo de mi madre peleó al lado de Pancho Villa quien fue el principal líder de esta revolución, fue ahí donde escuchó hablar sobre los mormones al terminar la revolucion tubo la oportunidad de investigar esta nueva creencia y aceptarla. Yo crecí en el Evangelio y fui a la organización primaria y mujeres jóvenes fue ahí donde tome las decisiones más grandes de mi vida la de servir una misión y casarme en el templo. En Abril de 1997- Octubre de 1998 serví en la misión Mexico León Guanajuato. Y en Mayo 2005 fui sellada a mi esposo Israel Serrano y ahí empezó nuestra familia, tenemos 4 hermosas hijas, Yanis (13), Ana Karen (10), Thayli Paola (8) y Jazmín (5). Mi esposo y mis hijas son la bendición más grande que tengo en mi vida. Toda mi vida he servido en la iglesia en diferentes llamamientos de barrio y de estaca pero el que más a marcado mi vida es ser la maestra de escuela dominical cuando era muy joven ya que era muy callada y tímida, y estar frente a personas adultas con mucho conocimiento y experiencia me ponía nerviosa pero eso me ayudó a saber que Dios nos ayuda a vencer todas nuestras debilidades para hacer lo que el nos manda. Estoy tan agradecida por el Evangelio en mi vida y ser tan bendecida ya que tuve la oportunidad de graduarme en las mujeres jóvenes y recibir la medalla de la mujer virtuosa y graduarme en seminario y e Instituto y todo esto me hace más humilde para saber que siempre debo estar dispuesta para servir en la iglesia de Jesucristo.

I was born in a small town of Nealtican in the State of Puebla, Mexico I am the youngest of 6 children, one sister and four brothers, one brother past away 5 years ago. I studied up until the 10th grade but I decided to study cosmetology for three years in the city of Puebla so I could work in my own business in a beauty salon for ten years. I am fourth generation member of The Church of Jesus Christ of latter Days Saints, and this thanks to the Mexican revolution of 1910 where my great- grandfather Francisco Santamaria, my mothers grand father fought along side of Pancho Villa who was the principle leader of the revolution, it was there where he heard talk about the Mormons at the end of the revolution he had the opportunity to investigate these beliefs and accept it. I grew up in the Gospel. I went to Primary and Young Womens Organization, where I made the biggest decision of my life to served a mission, and get sealed in the Temple. In April 1997-October 1998 I served a mission in Mexico Leon Guanajuato. In May 2005 I was sealed to my husband Israel Serrano and there we started our family, we have four beautiful daughters Yanis (13) Ana Karen(10) Thayli Paola (8) and Jazmin (5) my husband and daughters are the biggest blessing in my life . All my life I have served in different callings at the Ward and Stake levels but the one that has made a big different in my life was being a Sunday School teacher when I was very young when I was very quiet and timid, and being in front of adults with a lot of knowledge and experience would make me nervous but it helped me know that God helps us to do what he has sent us to do . I am very grateful for the Gospel in my life and I am very blessed to have the opportunity to graduate from Young Women's and receive the medallion of the righteous women, graduate from seminary and institute all of this has made me a very humble person to know that I have to be ready to serve in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints.

Leticia Aguayo Gamiño - "I have work enough to do for myself and kindred too"

·    Casada con Daniel Bañuelos.
·    Vive actualmente en El Monte
·    Conversa al evangelio desde el 2000.
·    Sellada en el templo de Los Ángeles como familia en febrero del 2001.
·    Madre de cuatro hijos, dos mujeres y dos hombres
·    Alejandra, sirvió una misión de tiempo completo en Provo UT.
·    Daniel, actualmente esta sirviendo una misión de tiempo completo en Mesa, AZ. El regresa en septiembre 2020, estoy emocionada. J
·    Atziry, actualmente en su segundo semestre en BYU – I
·    Benjamín, esta muy emocionado, en febrero 2020 se bautiza.
·    Lety considera que el llamamiento mas importante es el de ser madre y esposa en una familia.
·    A ella le apasiona servir tanto en el hogar como en la obra misional, sin embargo, lo que mas le gusta es llevar nombres de sus antepasados y hacer la obra por ellos en el templo.
·    Ella cocina muy rica comida mexicana, especialmente los chiles rellenos.
·    Su escritura favorita dice: “¿Quién subirá al monte de Jehová? ¿Y quién estará en su
lugar santo? El limpio de manos y puro de corazón, el que no ha elevado su alma a la vanidad ni jurado con engaño.” Salmos 24:3-4

·    Lety was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and is the fifth youngest in eight siblings
·    Married to Daniel Banuelos
·    Currently living in El Monte
·    Convert to the gospel since the year 2000
·    Sealed to her family in the Los Angeles Temple in February 2001
·    Mother to four children, two girls and two boys
·    Oldest daughter Alejandra served a full-time mission in the Provo and Orem Utah missions
·    Oldest son Daniel is currently serving a full-time mission in the Mesa, Arizona and is returning in September of this year.
·    Youngest daughter Atziry is currently in her second semester in BYU-Idaho.
·    Youngest son Benjamin is excited to get baptized in February 2020.
·    Being a mother and a wife to a family are the most important callings for her.
·    She is passionate in serving not only at home, but missionary work. Especially preparing and taking names of her ancestors to the temple.
·    She cooks very delicious food, especially chiles rellanos, which is her favorite food.
·    Her favorite scripture is found in Psalms 24:3-4 which states, “Who shall ascend into the hill of the lord? Or who shall stand in the holy place? He hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.”

As the second of six children, I spent most of my growing up years in Denver, Colorado. With five girls and one boy in our family, I watched my Mom navigate all the chaos, joy, and struggles that come with mothering a big family. Since I have always enjoyed working with children, I got my degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University. I enjoyed teaching first grade for many years before meeting my husband Ian. He consistently traveled several days out of the week for work, and we dated long distance for a long time. We joke that the first time we ever saw each other on a Tuesday was the day he proposed! We were sealed by my grandfather in the Salt Lake City Temple. We have been married for almost 10 years, and have three children ages 5, 3, and 1. Having young children close together has kept us busy and on our toes. I currently get to serve as the primary chorister, which is a lot of fun! Some of my favorite things are traveling, cooking healthy food, and spending time with my family.

How to find joy in loving service that is rendered in the home, with our children, with our spouse and extended family.

Chu Chu Garrard - "We'll build up his kingdom with earnest endeavor"

Objective: How we are blessed by others sharing the gospel.

Chu Chu was raised by loving parents in Beijing, China and she is the only child in her family. She earned a bachelor's degree in economics in Beijing. In her junior year of college, she met Steve Sessions, a business professor from Denver who is a member of the Church. In 2010 she came to the United States for her master's degree in public administration at USC. Upon her arrival in Los Angeles, she was introduced to the Church by Steve. She started to investigate the Church at the Institute of Religion at USC and was baptized six months later in the Los Angeles Stake. In 2012 she received her endowment in the Los Angeles Temple. In 2013 Chu Chu met her husband Ricky Garrard and got engaged after dating for two months. They were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple in April 2014 and started a life together in Arcadia. Chu Chu works for the USC Keck School of Medicine as the Operations Manager for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. She loves reading, drawing and music. In 2019 she received a merit award in Salt Lake City from the Church's International Art Competition. She has served in the Relief Society, Young Women and Primary organizations. She is grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the light it brings into her life.

Objective: Learn principles of service from the lives of women in the scriptures.

●I was born in Ogden UT and grew up in Elko NV. Third child of 5 kids.
●I have a BA in sociocultural anthropology from BYU and also played violin with the BYU Symphony and have a music minor.
●I also have an MPA from the University of Utah and have worked in the nonprofit sector as a grant writer, development and events coordinator, and an executive director.
●Met my husband Sam at BYU and we were married in the Salt Lake Temple. We have been married for 12 years and have 3 girls ages 8,5, and 5.
●Lived in Minnesota for 8 years and have moved 7 times in my married life (and many more to come!)
●I have lived in Arcadia for a year and a half but we are leaving for our next adventure in the spring to Brazzaville, Congo.
●Have lived in all types of wards from BYU single wards to a rural MN branch, served in primary presidencies, primary teacher, and gospel doctrine teacher. ●Hobbies are reading, jogging, and playing violin with the Pasadena Community Orchestra
